Projection Brings Art to Life

When the Froelick Gallery owners featured the works of Victor Maldonado in the “Myth of Myself” exhibit, they wanted to bring the art to life in a way that would immerse viewers in the overall expression of the art.

“Victor’s art was brought to life in the form of nine foot wide, bright images with the InFocus ScreenPlay 4805,” said Charles Froelick. “The projector reproduced the color in the art exquisitely and brought the images to life.”

“We decided against using televisions because they are clunky and take away from the experience,” Charles added. Projection captures the detail and complexity of the art, which draws in the audience and enhances their understanding of the work.”

The InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 displayed Victor’s paintings in images that moved and created collidiscopic pictures that blended, divided and shook to music. The projector was plugged into a Macintosh computer and a DVD player and the images were projected onto a white wall.

“It is almost like a director making a movie,” said Charles. Sometimes the art is shown silently but it is easy to add music or words to highlight the meaning and thought behind the pieces. Art tells a story unique to the creator, and art exhibits are finding a great way to bring that story to life by using projection technology to magnify the art work.

“Artists are beginning to use projection to display moving images and sound to expand their story telling capacities,” said Charles. We’re excited to be at the forefront of this new trend of large display technology used to showcase art work.”
