InFocus Projector Keeps Traveling Presenters Afloat
In 2004, New York State completed a 5-year phase of mandated Safe Boating Classes for anyone operating a Personal Watercraft (jet ski), and Curtis Harmon found his Coast Guard Auxiliary training class to be in high demand. The Public Education Officer and his presentation team traveled throughout the upstate New York area to provide life-saving tips, never knowing which stop would have the required technology to project the curriculum.
With a minimal budget, Curtis assumed his fleet couldn’t afford to purchase the necessary equipment to teach large groups of people. He stuck to using rustic overhead projectors and transparencies, when available, and handouts to teach the Safe Boating Classes.
Frustrated by the current resources, Curtis researched and purchased a Proxima DX2 portable projector from InFocus. At just five pounds and easily transported, the projector enables Harmon’s team to host safety classes in multiple locations and create a friendlier learning environment without interrupting the presentation. In addition to using the projector for the classroom of approximately 50 students, Harmon projects graphs and charts at regular Coast Guard meetings. He also uses navigational charts, scanned onto his computer, for internal training and on-going professional development.
Harmon and his team appreciate the clarity of the Proxima D2X. The images in the presentations appear larger, clearer, brighter and sharper and help capture the attention of the audience. His students have also commented on the use of projection technology and how it enhances the training courses.
“Being able to download all types of multimedia information including text, pictures and even animation, has made the process of preparing curriculum less time consuming and a lot more fun,” said Harmon. “This translates to a much better presentation for our students.”
