| Q: |
To install Presentation F/X for Windows NT, the following steps must be followed: |
| A: |
Before installing the software, first make sure that you are logged as the Administrator of your machine. If you are not, log on as Administrator, or have an Administrator install the software for you. After installing, if the remote is not working check the settings for the Serial Port in the BIOS. Then go into control panel and open ports. Go to the advanced settings of the com port that the Mind Path is using and be sure the settings are specified exactly like they were in the BIOS, default will not work. Ex. Com1: Base I/O: 3F8 IRQ: 4, Com2: Base I/O: 2F8 IRQ: 3 Take the check out of FIFO. FIFO can cause the remote to work extremely slow and sometimes completely stop it from working. If it still fails then delete and add back the com port which Mind Path is on. |

How do you configure the IrDA port, under Windows 95/98 for use with the Mind Path Remote? |
| A: |
In general IRDA ports provide a 3-4 ft range for the Mindpath Remote. A better option would be to use the Mindpath External IR receiver which provides upto a 50 ft range. To configure your laptop's IrDA Port for use with the Mind Path Remote, first go into the BIOS of the system and enable the Infrared Port on Com1 or an open Com Port. (Note: If you do not know how to enter your computer BIOS, contact your computer manufacturer.) Go to the Control Panel and click on the Infrared icon and choose Options. Take the check out of the Enable Infrared Communication and click OK. The Infrared should now be disabled. [Windows 95] Click on the System icon and go to the Device Manager. Go down to Ports and open the directory. Now, double click on the Generic Infrared Port. Set the resource settings to the same as the settings you specified in the BIOS for the Infrared Port. Click ok and restart the computer. [Windows 98] Click on the System icon and go to the Device Manager. Go down to Network Adapters and open the directory. Now, double click on the Infrared PnP Serial Port. Change the settings to anything other than the address you specified in the BIOS and click OK. Now close Device Manager and go to ADD New Hardware, add a standard communications port. Next go back to Device Manager. Now go down to ports and make sure the port which you added is set to the same resource settings you specified in the BIOS for the Infrared Port. Now go to the Network adapters and double click on the PNP Infrared Port. Set the resource settings back to the same as the settings you specified in the BIOS for the Infrared Port. The settings should now be the same as the communications port that was just added. Click ok and restart the computer. The last step is to reset your PocketPoint or IR55 to IrDA Mode. PocketPoint reset is as follows: Turn the Remote over and remove the battery cover. With a pen or paper clip gently move the switch away from the ON position. Replace the battery cover. IR55 Reset is as follows: Point the Remote at the Internal Receiver. Press and hold button 1. Then press and release 2. Release 1. Then press and release 5. |
