The upcoming interactive school year

By Dr. Christopher Craft: 6th grade Spanish and Latin teacher in Columbia, SC and InFocus Education Guru An Interactive Year Every year about this time I begin to really consider the school year and how it will likely be different than years past. This thinking is likely common to all teachers, but I often sit and wonder what I will think when the year is nearing its end. Last year I felt like the year’s theme was moving beyond the board. Reflections from ISTE - from Differentiation to Individualization

By Dr. Christopher Craft: 6th grade Spanish and Latin teacher in Columbia, SC and InFocus Education Guru Each year I make an attempt to personally identify the trend of the year. A few years ago when I attended ISTE (then called NECC) in Atlanta I identified the theme to be podcasting. Lots of folks were talking about podcasting that year. In the years since, a variety of themes have been prominent, such as digital storytelling, 1:1 computing, and blogging. Read More

Interactivity and Flexibility

There is a math teacher in our school that has an unconventional classroom space. Read More

Exploring Ancient Pompeii using Google Maps

In our Latin class, we often try to help kids understand what Pompeii was like before and after the eruption of Vesuvius in the first century A.D. It's difficult for kids to understand the gravity of the destruction. Google recently released street view of the Pompeii ruins, and this video shows how I use the InFocus Interactive Projector to navigate around Pompeii so they can see what it looks like to-day. And since the wand is portable, I can easily put it in their hands and let them drive. Read More

A Tour of Chris Craft’s Interactive Classroom

Classroom design is the topic of much discussion lately. The question we must answer when talking about classroom design is the intent that our classroom conveys by its design. What do my learners subconsciously think and/or feel when they enter the room? I wanted my classroom to be a bit of a black-box theatre where I can be among them, behind them, or around them but preferably not in front of my kids. This video is a tour of my classroom. Let me know what you think on Twitter @crafty184. – Chris Craft | 6th grade Spanish and Latin teacher in Columbia, SC and InFocus education guru Read More
