InFocus partnered with New Media Synergy to create a new, real-time experience at the event called the Startup America HD Social Lounge. The lounge creates a cool environment for valuable C-level networking and also features a real-time media studio. The lounge is powered by the latest technology from HD video production gear such as the NewTek 850 Extreme Tricaster HD to the InFocus Mondopad.

Mondopad Powers the HD Social Lounge

In the lounge, Mondopads will serve as a touch interface to the DEMO/Startup America Partnership Social Media Dashboard and as a giant tablet to browse real-time interactive event photography.

Each DEMO Demonstrator pitches their new technology in a 6-minute format. Once they come off stage they are invited back to the Startup America HD Social Lounge. They then gain extra exposure via a HD video interview and photography, which is syndicated across the web in real time using social media channels.

The content from the HD Social Lounge is rendered to an HD Social Dashboard featured on the Mondopad. This features live photos, videos, twitter feeds, and blog posts all in one place. The worldwide press will use the HD Dashboard to track buzz and locate the best photos that they may use for their coverage.

Mondopad’s built in video conferencing will also be used to create a live window so guests can peer in and see the action in the Startup America Lounge from DEMO’s main pavilion.

Mondopad at New Media Synergy (the Backend Operations)

The Mondopad has become New Media Synergy’s central hub for all meetings in their “command center” and boardroom. They use it for everything from global video conference calls to software development SCRUM sessions. Simple things like the whiteboard connected to telepresence save them time and reduce communication bottlenecks.

They even use it for entertainment. One of their staff was mixing music on it using Turntable.FM during lunch. He had an audience of 186 people around the world listening in to his mixes on Mondopad.

Tim Reha at New Media Synergy says, “We believe that iPads present a ‘personal’ experience, while the Mondopad is for a ‘group experience.’ The sky is the limit for this technology.” He goes on to say, “You really have to experience it in person to totally ‘get it.’ Then when you have a few creative people in the room, the juices start flowing and light bulbs go off.”

Tim has been in technology and venture funding for 16 years and believes this will be a billion dollar category. “Productivity when multiple devices are spread across real-time business operations around the globe will be huge,” he says. “Then when you take into consideration that the Mondopad has a mobile client, well I think you can connect the dots to see the 4”, 10” and 55” screens becoming a huge business ecosystem.”

The “HD Video Studio of the Future”

New Media Synergy is developing a new type of API that connects technology from web services to hardware such as the Tricaster HD Extreme video production system. At DEMO they will test new ideas to create an affordable “HD Video Studio of the Future” by connecting the Mondopad to the Tricaster as a layer of video.

The Mondopad is used as an on-set, visual interactive presentation and communication system that becomes a video feed mixed by the Tricaster HD Extreme. In simple terms they can now add white boarding, collaborative browsing, video conferencing and presentations to a live stream or real-time HD video show production.
